If you could imagine the perfect networking event, it would probably be located on a canary island, in a five-star hotel with clear blue skies, poolside dinners and presentations from some of the industry’s best. Well, KMS and Goldwell did just that when they hosted The Hub Networking event at the Melia Palacio de Isora, Tenerife resort back in June.
Welcoming everyone to the resort, Mark Giannandrea, UK General Manager for KAO Salon Division started proceedings with an insight into the industry, stating that “Hairdressing is the 5th most popular start-up business.” He added that 12 new salons opened every week in 2016 and 48% of those working in the industry were self employed.
Emil McMahon shared his knowledge with salon owners and helped them understand retail and customer service in the digital world. Guests were given key legal advice from Head of the National Hairdressers Federation, Laura Chalkley. Other speakers included Creative Director of Media, Maggie Nordon from the London College of Fashion who took a creative look at trends and Digital & Mobile Strategist, Neil Ballinger from Nimbletank took the audience through the A-Z of Digital and how these will impact their businesses in the future.
The event’s key speaker was ‘Queen of Shops’ Mary Portas who spoke about her journey to where she is today, as well as her business manifesto to ensure she gets the most from her team, how best to treat team members and how to achieve success at all levels. She stressed “It’s all about we, not me!”
Bringing the event to a close were a panel of award winning Goldwell Guest Artists – Mark Leeson, Beverly C MBE, Shane Bennett and Neil Barton – who discussed hot industry topics, along with competition work and the value to salons.
Business Development Manager, Bradley Lever said “It was an absolute pleasure to be invited to capture this event. The CS Media team worked hard to film and photograph all of the presentations whilst the guests made it easy for us to showcase how much fun they had over the two days. In addition to creating a teaser video leading up to the event, we also had the pleasure of making the launch video for next year’s destination. Which, if this year is anything to go by, will mean guests will already be queuing up to reserve their places.”
